The Banningham Crown – just a short ten minute walk into the village – 17th century inn serving real ales and locally sourced menu and bar snacks. Log fires in the winter and sheltered garden and patio areas. Families welcome.
The Gunton Arms – a ten minute drive away from The Granary. a traditional pub in extensive one thousand acre 18th century deer park. The Gunton has it’s own venison and sources local beef from Blickling Estate and seafood, mussels, Cromer crab all caught by local fishermen.
The Black Boys Pub is an imposing Grade II listed building in the centre of the historic market town of Aylsham (just a short five minute drive from The Granary). It is a popular pub, bar and restaurant with free on-site parking.
Bread Source in Aylsham is a must for artisan bakery items! Amazing bread and pastries – why not bring your goods back to The Granary for a special take-away breakfast or afternoon treat!

Blickling Hall and National Trust Estate with beautiful gardens, walks, historic house and parkland is just 2 miles from The Granary. Also worth a visit is Felbrigg Hall & Gardens, Oxburgh Hall and Sheringham Park.
Cromer is a favourite with families looking for a traditional seaside day out. Known locally as ‘The Gem of the Norfolk Coast’ it is just 8 miles from The Granary. Crabbing begins in March and continues throughout the summer months until autumn arrives – you can watch the local fishermen bringing in their catch up the gangway located close to the historic Cromer Pier. There are plenty of places to buy a freshly dressed Cromer Crab and why not enjoy on the beautiful sandy blue flag beach!
Holkham Hall and the world famous award winning Holkham Beach is the chosen beach for the ‘Household Cavalry’ and Gwyneth Paltrow in ‘Shakespeare in Love’.
Burnham Market known as ‘Chelsea-On-Sea’ as it is full of wonderful shops and boutiques. Visit the Lord Nelson Pub at Burnham Thorpe the historic birth place of Lord Horatio Nelson and the beautiful surrounding villages of the Burnham’s. Brancaster is just a short drive on from Burnham where you can enjoy a tranquil walk on the sandy beach, rock pool dipping and of course a round of golf at the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club.
RSPB and nature reserves are also nearby. Blakeney Point a National Nature Reserve, famous for bird watching and seal trips. Park at Cley beach and walk to the Point. Sailing, fishing, water sports, walking and bird watching all available on your doorstep. The popular Titchwell Reserve on the North Norfolk coast has something for everyone and in the summer, marsh harriers float over the reeds, where bearded tits nest.
The Georgian town of Holt with its fabulous shopping is only 13 miles away where you can also catch the Poppy Line train and Fakenham with its Cinema, Racecourse and Weekly Market is just 9 miles from the property.
If you fancy taking a different form of transport for the day try the Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham which will take you along a scenic journey to the bustling town of Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads. The 18 mile round trip runs through the pretty Bure Valley countryside.
Thursford which hosts the largest Christmas show in the country ‘The Thursford Christmas Spectacular’ and a magical Santa Journey for children is an absolute ‘must’ during the Festive season.
If you venture a little further you can also visit Hunstanton, which is home to The Sheraton Shipwreck, Hunstanton Watersports and The Sea Life Centre, as well as a beautiful beach flanked by stunning cliff tops. Old Hunstanton is particularly nice if you wish for a quieter day at the beach – visit the Beach Cafe next to the lifeboat station for light refreshements and ice creams. Children will enjoy the pools of water left on the sandy beach at low tide. We highly recommend the Gin Trap Inn, Ringstead if you venture this direction. A fabulous place to eat either inside or alfresco and an amazing play area to keep little ones entertained!
Norfolk offers a great selection of family days out which children of all ages will love! Some of our favourites include nearby Snettisham Park , Amazona Zoo , with its selection of South American animals and Pensthorpe Natural Park (http://www.pensthorpe.com/), an award-winning mix of meandering nature trails, woodland walks, and a great adventure play area.
For those children wanting a more action packed adventure make sure you visit the Dinosaur Park in Lenwade or BeWilderwood, The Curious Treehouse Adventure which was named ‘one of the 50 most fabulous things to do in the world’ by The Observer.
Sandringham House has been the Norfolk home of four generations of monarchs and today is the Norfolk retreat of HM The Queen. There is a great deal to do and see there with their gardens, nature trails, woodland walks and museum, so definitely worth a visit – www.sandringhamestate.co.uk
